Deception at the lowest level
Whenever I check my Friendster account, I take time to look at some of the messages posted in my Bulletin Board. I don't mind receiving endless surveys, but what I DO MIND is the deceptive, tricky way in which people create different subject lines to send Christian messages. Here're examples of these irritating subject lines:
Usher killed in a car crash
So you opened this because it said "Usher Killed in Car Crash!!!", but if it said Jesus Christ our Lord would you have opened it? It's your choice. If you aren't ashamed to do this, repost and put your name onthe bottom.
Sex Video
So you opened this because you thought this is about a sex video? But if it said Jesus Christ would you have opened it?
What irritates me most is the self-righteous tone of these messages. Its creator/s assumed that people are trivial, hence the use of subject lines they think would appeal to the reader. When you open the message, it self-righteously tells, even accuses, you of not opening the message had it not been titled as such. And the message orders you, if you have a conscience, to join in the list of people who are "not ashamed of Jesus Christ" and repost the message to your contacts. Kung ang intention ng message is to be unashamed of JC, then why resort to such trickery? Walang pinagkaiba ang mga message na'to sa chain letters: they frighten and embarrass people to compel them to spread an otherwise well-intentioned message. You don't have to be fooled then reprimanded just to follow an order or request to do something.

The message is good, but the packaging sucks.

That is interesting... maybe you should post that in Friendster hehehehe
I like the last line the best: The message is good, but the packaging sucks.

...wow, that is an unpleasant sample of chain mail. i DO hate the self-righteous tone [and the fact that it assumes the person reading is a Christian is a little unenlightened]. luckily i haven't read any of these posts so far. but now, i'm on my gaurd. ;)
Chin! I totally agree with you, palibhasa na-biktima na rin ako and more than once, at that. (I think it was something about heartthrobs or pretty people on Friendster) Such a sucker for these things. :)
Oh no, and I didn't let my "conscience" bother me anymore. There are indeed much better ways to show your faith.
***Christine, good point--Why do people have to automatically assume that the person reading is Christian?
Hay, I share all of your sentiments.
Tama si Rye, i-post mo 'yang entry sa Friendster bulletin and see how the people who wrote them react. Better yet, blatantly label your entry as " Chad Michael Murray, Hilary Duff to attend World Youth Day in Germany ," (suggestions for alternative subject headings are open). THAT should get your message across!
;) Hahahaha. Joke lang.
hmmmm...maraming matataaman panigurado pag nag-post ako sa Friendster. Nakatanggap nga'ko uli e. Sige pag-isipan ko.... (malalaman nyo naman 'pag nag-post na'ko e, hehe)
